Purrawunda, QLD

Purrawunda is a rural locality in Queensland's Toowoomba Region, situated approximately 21.5 km southwest of Oakey and 38.3 km west of Toowoomba's central business district. Covering an area of 5.6 km², it is home to a small community of 12 residents as of the 2021 census. The area is characterized by fertile, well-drained dark, medium clays, supporting predominantly crop cultivation alongside some grazing and intensive animal husbandry. Notably, JBS Australia's Beef City operates a beef abattoir and feedlot here, while Avigrain, Australia's largest birdseed manufacturer, processes and stores grain at the former Purrawunda Grainco silos. The name 'Purrawunda' translates to 'big fight' in the local Jagera language.
