
Proof Range, located approximately 74 km north-northwest of Adelaide and 6 km south of Port Wakefield, is a coastal locality in South Australia. Established in January 2000, it derives its name from the Port Wakefield Proof and Experimental Establishment, a facility for testing weapons and ammunition. The area encompasses about 40.8 square kilometers and had a population of 312 in 2011, reflecting a 53.7% growth since 2006. The predominant age group is 30-39 years, with most residents employed in community and personal service occupations. Proof Range enjoys a Mediterranean climate, characterized by hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters. The average winter temperature ranges from 8°C to 16°C, making heating a necessity during the colder months. With an average of 300 sunny days per year, the region is well-suited for solar power generation. As of 2025, over 240 homes in the area have solar panels installed, collectively generating approximately 13,192 kWh per day and reducing the community's annual carbon footprint by 1,107.45 tonnes.
