The Proof and Experimental Establishment, located on Bald Hill Road in Proof Range, South Australia, is a 56-square-kilometre facility dedicated to the testing and evaluation of weapons and ordnance. Established in 1929, it serves as a self-contained site equipped with electricity, water, and sewerage systems. The establishment is renowned for its unique coastal location, allowing projectiles to be fired into the sea and recovered undamaged during low tide. This capability makes it the only range in Australia where such retrieval is possible. In addition to weapons testing, the site is utilized for the destruction of expired and unsafe ordnance, ensuring the safety and reliability of military equipment. The establishment operates year-round, providing assurance functions for Defence.
