Venue

Burra, SA

Constructed in 1847, the Powder Magazine is Australia's oldest surviving mine building, originally used to store gunpowder for mining operations. Its arched stone roof and sheepskin lining were designed for safety and structural integrity. Restored by the National Trust in 1976, it now forms part of the Burra Mine Open Air Museum. Access is included with the Burra Heritage Passport, available at the Burra Goyder Visitor Information Centre. Visitors can explore the site during daylight hours using their Passport key.
