Venue

Port Fairy, VIC

Griffiths Island, accessible via a scenic causeway from Port Fairy, is home to the historic Port Fairy Lighthouse, built in 1859 from local bluestone. The lighthouse stands 12.5 meters above sea level, guiding vessels into the Moyne River. Visitors can enjoy a looped walking track around the island, taking in coastal views and observing a colony of short-tailed shearwaters, or mutton-birds, which return to their burrows at dusk between September and April. The island also hosts native wildlife, including swamp wallabies and echidnas. Dogs are not permitted, and visitors are encouraged to stick to marked paths to protect the environment.
