Pleystowe Mill, established in 1869, was Australia's oldest operating sugar mill until its closure in 2008. Located approximately 18 kilometers west of Mackay, Queensland, along the southern bank of the Pioneer River, the mill began crushing sugar cane in 1872. Over the years, it underwent several ownership changes, including a significant amalgamation in 1925. Despite its rich history, the mill ceased operations in 2008 due to industry rationalization and urban development. Today, the site continues to serve the sugar industry by providing centralized services to other operating mills within the Mackay Sugar group.
