Plaque marking St Magdalen’s Retreat, Tempe House and Tempe Estate
Price on enquiry
A plaque at 8 Brodie Spark Drive commemorates the historic Tempe House and St Magdalen's Chapel, significant landmarks in Wolli Creek's heritage. Tempe House, constructed between 1833 and 1836 for Alexander Brodie Spark, is a rare example of Neo-Classical Georgian architecture in Sydney. In 1885, the Sisters of the Good Samaritan Order acquired the estate, establishing St Magdalen's Retreat in 1887 to provide refuge for women in need. The chapel, built in 1888, served as a spiritual center for the community until 1985. Today, the plaque honors their enduring legacy.
