Piccaninnie Ponds Conservation Park, located 32 kilometers southeast of Mount Gambier, is a Ramsar-listed wetland renowned for its exceptional karst and coastal fen features. The park encompasses 862 hectares of clear freshwater pools, with depths exceeding 110 meters, supporting aquatic vegetation up to 15 meters below the surface. These pools are home to seven nationally or internationally listed species, including the Yarra pygmy perch and the orange-bellied parrot. Visitors can explore the park via walking trails through coastal wattle and bearded heath, leading to a lookout offering panoramic views of the wetlands. Please note that water-based activities, such as diving and snorkeling, are currently prohibited to allow for the regeneration of aquatic vegetation and fauna species following an outbreak of filamentous algae.
