Palmetum

The Palmetum, located in Douglas, Townsville, is a 17-hectare botanical garden renowned for its extensive collection of palms from around the world. Established in 1988 as a Bicentennial project, it showcases approximately 300 species, many of which are rare and threatened in their natural habitats. The garden features diverse habitats, including dry tropics and wet tropical lowlands, and is home to expansive lawns and water features frequented by numerous bird species. Visitors can explore the gardens via well-maintained pathways, enjoy picnic facilities, and visit the historic Tumbetin Lodge, which houses a café and visitor amenities. The Palmetum is open daily from sunrise to sunset, offering a tranquil retreat for nature enthusiasts and families alike.
