Palmer Goldfield Resources Reserve, located 280 km northwest of Cairns, offers a glimpse into North Queensland's rich gold mining history. Visitors can explore well-preserved 19th-century mining machinery, including boilers, steam engines, stamp mills, and pumps, scattered across the rugged landscape. The reserve provides basic camping facilities along the North Palmer River, accessible by high-clearance four-wheel-drive vehicles. Camping permits are required and must be booked in advance. The area is closed during the wet season from December 1 to Good Friday due to impassable roads.
