Ournie is a tranquil rural community in southeastern New South Wales, approximately 15 kilometers northwest of Welaregang and 20 kilometers south of Munderoo. Nestled along the Ournie Creek, which flows into the Murray River, the area is about 4 kilometers from the Victorian border. In the late 1800s, Ournie experienced a gold mining boom, with a population exceeding 400 at its peak. Today, remnants of old mine shafts remain on private property. The Ournie Post Office operated intermittently between 1872 and 1968.
