Onkaparinga River National Park, located 28.5 km south of Adelaide, offers diverse hiking trails leading to cliff tops with magnificent views and permanent rock pools teeming with life. The park features rugged ridge tops and the narrow river valley of the spectacular Onkaparinga Gorge. It protects some of the finest remaining pockets of remnant vegetation in the Southern Adelaide region. Visitors can encounter native wildlife such as birds, koalas, kangaroos, and possums, with the possibility of spotting an echidna. The park also includes heritage-listed huts and ruins of houses built in the 1880s. Shared-use trails offer opportunities for mountain biking and horse riding. Adjacent to the national park, Onkaparinga River Recreation Park boasts wetland areas, boardwalks, and kayaking opportunities.
