Nestled at 16 Stanley Street in Bathurst, Old Government Cottage is a rare, intact example of early Australian domestic architecture. Originally believed to have been built in 1817 as the residence of the Commandant of the Bathurst Settlement, subsequent research suggests it was constructed around 1850 by Miss Anne Falloon, who operated a school for young ladies. The cottage features three interconnected rooms, a small cellar, and an original baker's oven. Its heritage garden, restored in 2015, includes sections for picking, fruit trees, herbs, vegetables, and berries, reflecting 1850s horticultural practices. Managed by the Bathurst District Historical Society, the cottage is open on the fourth Sunday of each month from 12 pm to 4 pm, offering visitors a glimpse into Bathurst's early history.
