Nestled above Tasmania's Tamar Valley, Notley Fern Gorge State Reserve offers a serene rainforest experience. The 1.5-kilometer loop track, taking about 45 minutes, features creek crossings and a moderate uphill climb. Along the way, interpretive signs highlight diverse flora and fauna, including pink robins, golden whistlers, and nocturnal species like Bennetts wallabies and Tasmanian devils. Notably, 'Bradey's Tree,' a hollowed-out eucalypt, is linked to the 1820s bushranger Matthew Brady. After the walk, visitors can relax at the picnic and barbecue area. The reserve is a 30-minute drive northwest of Launceston.
