Noccundra, QLD

Noccundra Hotel, established in 1882, is the sole surviving building of the historic Noccundra township in Queensland's Channel Country. Constructed from locally quarried sandstone transported by camel train, the hotel is a heritage-listed landmark. It serves as a gathering place for locals, stockmen, and travelers, offering accommodation in dongas (demountable buildings) and camping sites. The hotel features a fully licensed bar, dining room, and provides communal showers and toilets. An unsealed airstrip behind the hotel accommodates visitors arriving by plane. Adjacent to the hotel, the Noccundra Waterhole on the Wilson River offers excellent fishing and camping opportunities. The hotel hosts annual events such as a campdraft, rodeo, gymkhana, bull ride, and race meeting every October.
