Mungo Meeting Place

The Meeting Place in Mungo National Park serves as a cultural hub, offering visitors a deep connection to the area's rich Aboriginal heritage. Adjacent to the Visitor Centre, it features a replica of ancient human footprints, preserved from around 20,000 years ago, providing a tangible link to the past. The crescent-shaped viewing area overlooks the dry bed of Lake Mungo, with the lunette dune on its eastern shore, a site of significant archaeological importance. This area is the resting place of many Aboriginal ancestors, including the 42,000-year-old remains of Mungo Lady and Mungo Man. The Meeting Place symbolizes the enduring connection between science and culture, commemorating the ancient resting place of these and countless other Aboriginal people.
