Mowantjie Willauwar Conservation Park, located approximately 6 km southwest of Tailem Bend along the Princes Highway, spans 143 hectares of Southern Cypress Pine forest. The park's name, derived from the Ngarrindjeri language, translates to 'Native Pine Forest,' reflecting its rich biodiversity. Within its boundaries, visitors can find two nationally threatened orchid species: the vulnerable Sandhill Greenhood Orchid and the endangered Metallic Sun-orchid. The park offers well-marked walking trails suitable for various fitness levels, allowing exploration of its diverse habitats, including closed forests, woodlands, and grasslands. Wildlife enthusiasts may encounter over 40 bird species, such as the White-browed Babbler and the Superb Fairywren, as well as Eastern Grey kangaroos and Sand Goannas. The park is also part of the River Bend Heritage Trail, a 28 km loop that provides scenic views of the Murray River and connects to other local attractions.
