Established on 23 February 1995, it encompasses an area of 125.63 km². The area is primarily zoned for primary production, reflecting its agricultural focus. As of the 2021 Census, Mount McIntyre has a population of 70 residents. The locality is part of the Wattle Range Council and falls within the state electoral district of MacKillop and the federal division of Barker.
