The Mount Gambier Roundhouse, constructed in 1953, was a significant part of the city's railway heritage, serving as a maintenance facility for locomotives. In 2018, the structure was demolished due to fire damage and structural concerns. Salvaged timber beams from the roundhouse were donated to the National Trust of South Australia for restoration projects. Today, the site is a vacant lot, with the former roundhouse no longer standing.
