Mount Field National Park, established in 1916, is Tasmania's oldest national park and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Located approximately 70 minutes northwest of Hobart, the park offers diverse landscapes, from lush rainforests with towering swamp gums to alpine regions adorned with glacial lakes and unique flora like the deciduous beech, or fagus, which transforms into vibrant hues in autumn. Visitors can explore iconic attractions such as the three-tiered Russell Falls, embark on the Three Falls Circuit, or traverse the Tarn Shelf Circuit, each showcasing the park's natural beauty. The park also provides camping facilities, including powered and unpowered sites, and basic Government Huts for accommodation. In winter, Mount Mawson ski field offers snow activities. A valid parks pass is required for entry.
