Mount Direction, TAS

Mount Direction Historic Site, located approximately 25 kilometers north of Launceston, offers a glimpse into Tasmania's early communication history. Established in 1825, it was part of the Tamar Valley semaphore system, facilitating communication between Launceston and George Town. The site features a stone building from 1843, once housing signalmen and their families, along with cast iron gates and a dry stone wall from its pastoral era. Visitors can explore the ruins and discover remnants like eye bolts used to stabilize the original semaphore mast.
