Mount Carbine, QLD

The Mount Carbine Tableland, situated in Far North Queensland, Australia, is a plateau within the Great Dividing Range, approximately 15 kilometers west of Mossman. Elevated at 1,383 meters above sea level, it is predominantly covered with tropical rainforest and receives an annual rainfall of about 2,000 millimeters. This area is part of the Wet Tropics of Queensland World Heritage site. Notable mountains in the region include Mount Spurgeon (1,317 meters), Roots Mount (1,313 meters), Devils Thumb (1,258 meters), and Black Mountain (1,311 meters). The plateau's highest point remains unnamed and is the fourth tallest mountain in Queensland. The rich basaltic soils support diverse forests that provide habitat for species such as the Lumholtz's tree-kangaroo. Additionally, the Waterfall frog, once feared extinct, was rediscovered in a creek on the Mount Carbine Tableland in July 2008.
