Moonta Mines Railway

Embark on a 50-minute journey through the historic Moonta Mines State Heritage Area aboard the Moonta Mines Tourist Railway. Departing from the Moonta Mines Museum, this guided tour offers insightful commentary as you pass landmarks like the reservoir, ore sorting floors, and a tunnel through Ryan's Tailings Heap. The route also includes a visit to the Precipitation Works, established in 1900 to extract additional copper from tailings. Operated by dedicated volunteers from the National Trust of SA Moonta Branch, the narrow-gauge train runs on weekends, public holidays, and school holidays at scheduled times.
