Moana Sands Conservation Park, located approximately 35 km south of Adelaide, is a significant Aboriginal cultural heritage site. The park's coastal sand dunes hold deep cultural significance for the Kaurna people, who established their summer camps near Pedler Creek. Archaeological findings, including burial sites, hearths, and shell middens dating back over 6,000 years, have been uncovered as the sands have shifted. Despite past sand mining, farming, and recreational activities impacting the landscape, the park remains a haven for observing reptiles and birdlife. Visitors can spot painted dragons, skinks, honeyeaters, brown goshawks, dotterels, and the rare hooded plover amidst the low coastal vegetation.
