
Moa Island, also known as Banks Island, is the largest island in the Torres Strait's "Near Western" group, situated 40 kilometers north of Thursday Island. The island features two communities: Kubin on the southwest coast and St Pauls on the east coast, connected by a bitumen and gravel road. As of the 2021 census, Moa Island has a population of 432 residents. The island is part of the Torres Strait Island Region local government area and is renowned for its rich cultural heritage and scenic landscapes.
