Menindee, NSW

Menindee, established in the 1850s, is the first town on the Darling River in western New South Wales. It was a key stop for explorers Burke and Wills in 1860. The town is renowned for the Menindee Lakes, a series of freshwater lakes that attract diverse birdlife and feature haunting river red gums. Kinchega National Park, adjacent to Menindee, offers rich Aboriginal and European heritage sites, including the historic Kinchega Woolshed and the Old Kinchega Homestead ruins. Visitors can enjoy birdwatching, boating, and exploring the surrounding outback landscapes.
