Menindee, NSW

Menindee Lakes, situated approximately 110 kilometers southeast of Broken Hill in New South Wales, is a significant water storage system comprising four main lakes—Lake Wetherell, Lake Pamamaroo, Lake Menindee, and Lake Cawndilla. Collectively, they hold about 1,731,000 megalitres of water, three and a half times the capacity of Sydney Harbour. The lakes supply water to Broken Hill and support irrigation, stock, and domestic needs for landholders between Menindee and Wentworth. Visitors can enjoy activities such as camping, fishing, boating, and birdwatching, with facilities including boat ramps, picnic shelters, and shower amenities. The surrounding Kinchega National Park offers insights into Aboriginal and pastoral history, featuring the historic Kinchega Woolshed and the ruins of the Old Kinchega Homestead. The area is also home to diverse birdlife, making it a haven for birdwatching enthusiasts.
