Menindee Lakes, situated approximately 110 kilometers southeast of Broken Hill in New South Wales, Australia, comprise a series of shallow, ephemeral freshwater lakes along the Darling River. The system includes four main lakes: Menindee, Wetherell, Pamamaroo, and Cawndilla, collectively covering about 47,500 hectares. Originally natural depressions, the lakes were transformed into a water storage system in the 1960s to supply water for domestic, agricultural, and industrial use. The area is renowned for its rich biodiversity, supporting numerous waterbird species and offering opportunities for camping, fishing, and water sports. Kinchega National Park, encompassing parts of the lakes, provides insights into Aboriginal and pastoral history, featuring historic sites like the Kinchega Woolshed and Old Kinchega Homestead.
