Experience a unique stay in the historic Penitentiary at Darlington, Maria Island National Park. Originally housing convicts from 1830, it now offers basic bunkhouse-style accommodation with nine rooms, each containing six beds, and one room with fourteen beds. Amenities include a communal mess hall equipped with gas cookers and sinks, as well as adjacent toilets and rainwater tanks. Please note, public showers at Darlington Campground are expected to remain closed until 2025. Guests should bring their own bedding, cooking equipment, crockery, cutlery, food, and a torch or lantern. Access to the Penitentiary is a 500-meter walk from the jetty, with trolleys available to assist with luggage transport.
