Venue

La Perouse, NSW

Perched on the La Perouse headland within Kamay Botany Bay National Park, Macquarie Watchtower is Australia's oldest surviving sandstone tower, built around 1821–1822. Originally constructed to monitor for smugglers, it became the nation's first customs outstation in 1829. Adjacent to the La Perouse Museum, the tower offers visitors a glimpse into Sydney's colonial and convict history. Its picturesque setting makes it a favored spot for photography, especially for weddings. The watchtower is open daily from 7 am to 8:30 pm during daylight saving months and from 7 am to 7:30 pm in the cooler months. Please note that the La Perouse park entry gate is closed to vehicles between 7 pm and 5 am year-round.
