Jagungal Wilderness, NSW

Nestled in the heart of the Jagungal Wilderness Area within Kosciuszko National Park, Mackey's Hut, also known as Tibeaudos Hut, offers a rustic retreat for hikers and cross-country skiers. Constructed in 1944-1945 by Norm and Sam Mackey for grazing purposes, the hut features two rooms with iron walls and roof, a timber floor, and a stone fireplace with an iron flue. The chimney was rebuilt by the National Parks and Wildlife Service in 2010, enhancing its functionality. Accessible via the Grey Mare Fire Trail, the hut serves as a base for exploring the surrounding alpine scenery, including the nearby Tibeaudo Cascades. Its location between O'Keefes Hut and the Gungahlin River makes it a convenient stopover for those traversing the area.
