Built around 1846 by J.H. Luhrs, the first Lutheran school teacher in Light Pass, Luhrs Cottage is a four-roomed museum offering a glimpse into early Barossa life. The bedrooms showcase early German clothing and children's toys, while the front room displays family photos, homeopathic items, and religious paintings. The kitchen features period kitchenware and a small fireplace used for daily cooking and heating water. Out back, the 'Schoolroom'—actually a kitchen built 23 years after the original cottage—houses a large bake oven and early German teaching materials. The cellar below this kitchen was used to store preserves, meat, butter, and other perishable foods. Visitors can also explore the 'outhouse' (long drop toilet) and the smokehouse used to smoke meat and German sausages. The yard and shed display machinery used by early vignerons, an original German wagon, other farm machinery, and locally made hand tools. Admission is a gold coin donation, assisting with the preservation of the cottage. The museum is open daily from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
