The Loxton Irrigation Area Monument commemorates the official opening of the Loxton Irrigation Area by Premier Thomas Playford on September 21, 1949. Initiated by the Taplan RSL sub-branch in 1940 to support repatriated ex-servicemen, the development transformed several thousand acres into productive farmland. In its early years, settlers sourced water from irrigation channels or transported it from water points, with young trees watered using horse-drawn trolleys. Today, remnants of an irrigation channel remain near the monument, which overlooks flourishing citrus and apple orchards and vineyards.
