The Longreach Powerhouse and Historical Museum offers a captivating journey through the region's rich history. Housed in the former Longreach Powerhouse, established in 1921, the museum showcases a vast collection of artifacts, including early settlement memorabilia, a 1948 classroom replica, and a range of office equipment from local businesses dating back to the early 20th century. Visitors can explore the preserved generating complex, featuring massive engines and a unique gas production system that was a first for Australia. The museum also features the original 1921 swimming baths and Nogo Cottage, depicting family life in Western Queensland from 1938 to 1950. Interactive exhibits, such as scavenger hunts, make it a family and pet-friendly destination. The museum is open Monday to Friday from 10:00 am to 4:30 pm, closed on weekends and public holidays. Admission fees apply, with concessions for pensioners, seniors card holders, students, and holders of current M.A. membership cards. Wheelchair access is available to 98% of the museum.
