Venue

South Bowenfels, NSW

During World War II, the Bowenfels Gun Emplacement was established to safeguard Lithgow's vital mining, manufacturing, and transport sectors, including the Small Arms Factory. Constructed in 1941–1942, it features four octagonal reinforced concrete gun emplacements arranged around a central command bunker. Although the guns were never fired in combat, they hold state historical significance as part of Australia's inland defense network. In 2003, three restored 3.7-inch heavy anti-aircraft guns were installed at the site, offering visitors a glimpse into the area's wartime heritage.
