Leichhardt Falls, located approximately 77 kilometers east of Burketown along the Nardoo-Burketown Road, is a captivating natural attraction on the Leichhardt River. The falls are renowned for their stepped formation and expansive width, offering a picturesque landscape that varies from a powerful torrent during the wet season to a gentle flow in the dry season. Visitors can explore the area by walking approximately 200 meters north from the river crossing to reach the main falls, with additional falls and rapids accessible along the eastern side. The region is rich in history, featuring ancient Aboriginal grinding grooves and fossils within the rocks. As a popular fishing spot during the wet season, the area is also home to a diverse bird population, making it a haven for birdwatching enthusiasts. Free camping is permitted along the riverbanks, though visitors are advised to camp away from the water's edge due to the presence of estuarine crocodiles. Swimming is strongly discouraged for safety reasons.
