Lal Lal, VIC

Lal Lal Falls Lookout, situated along Von Guerard View Track in Lal Lal, VIC 3352, offers visitors a captivating glimpse into Victoria's natural beauty. The reserve features a large grassy area, playground, picnic tables, toilets, and an undercover area with BBQs and information boards. A short 200-meter walk leads to a viewing platform overlooking the impressive 30-meter-high waterfall cascading into a deep gorge. For a more extensive experience, the Von Guerard View Track provides a longer-distance view across the gorge. The area is also home to significant vegetation, including 13 plant species of regional significance and one species rare in Victoria and Australia, supporting a variety of small mammals, reptiles, and birds. Culturally, the falls are believed to be the earthly home of Bunjil, the All Father or Creator to most Victorian Aboriginal tribes. The name 'Lal Lal' is thought to be Aboriginal for 'dashing of waters'. The Lal Lal Falls is listed on the Site Registry of Aboriginal Affairs Victoria as a spiritual place.
