Woronora Dam, NSW

Woronora Dam, completed in 1941, is a heritage-listed concrete gravity dam located approximately 50 kilometers south of Sydney. It was constructed to supply water to communities south of the Georges River and is the fifth and final pre-World War II dam built to ensure a stable water source for Sydney. The dam features a serpentine spillway and offers picnic areas with facilities such as electric barbecues, drinking water, and toilets. Visitors can enjoy walking across the dam wall, which provides panoramic views of the lake and the surrounding gorge. The area also retains workers' cottages and remnants of old platforms, plant, and machinery used during the dam's construction in the 1930s. Access to the lower picnic area and dam wall is currently closed to the public until further notice.
