Lake View House, built in 1870, is a charming red-brick residence that once served as the childhood home of acclaimed Australian author Henry Handel Richardson. The house is furnished in period style, recreating a lakeside country villa atmosphere in the prosperous mining town of Chiltern. Visitors can explore Richardson's personal items, including the desk where she penned her first novel. The house is open every Saturday from 11 am to 2 pm, with admission fees ranging from $3 for children to $5 for adults. National Trust members receive free entry.
