The reserve features diverse ecosystems, including wet sclerophyll eucalyptus forests and rainforests. The name "Killabakh" originates from the Worimi language, meaning "blue gum," a prevalent local tree species. It is part of a network of protected areas along the Great Eastern Escarpment, contributing to the conservation of mountain ecosystems in eastern Australia.
