Karte is a small town and locality in South Australia's east, approximately 192 kilometers east of Adelaide, near Pinnaroo and Lameroo. Established on June 8, 1916, it was named after the Karte Railway Station, a stop on the Peebinga railway line, which ceased operations in 1990. The town is situated within the Hundred of Kingsford and is bordered by the Karte Conservation Park to the southwest and the Peebinga Conservation Park to the north. The area is primarily used for primary production, with conservation parks enhancing its natural beauty. Karte falls under the Southern Mallee District Council, the state electoral district of Hammond, and the federal division of Barker.
