Jericho, established in 1816, is one of Tasmania's oldest townships, nestled along the Midland Highway between Hobart and Launceston. The village showcases early colonial sandstone architecture, with notable structures like the Commandant's Cottage (1842) and the Probation Station (1840), which housed convicts constructing the road linking Hobart and Launceston. The main Anglican church, St James (1888), contains the grave of Trooper John Hutton Bisdee, the first Tasmanian awarded the Victoria Cross. Today, Jericho retains its colonial charm, offering a glimpse into Tasmania's rich history.
