Huon Island, Tasmania

Huon Island, a 47-hectare landmass in Tasmania's D'Entrecasteaux Channel, lies between Bruny Island and the mainland. Once heavily farmed, it now features a small human population. The island's vegetation includes introduced grasses, bracken, and scattered white gums. It's a breeding ground for little penguins and short-tailed shearwaters. Historically, Huon Island was sighted by Bruny d'Entrecasteaux in 1792/93 and named after his second-in-command, Huon de Kermadec. The Nuenonne people refer to it as Prahree.
