Hermitage Research Station, Warwick

Established in 1897, the Hermitage Research Facility in Warwick, Queensland, is the state's oldest agricultural research station. Spanning 228 hectares, it specializes in plant breeding and agronomic studies, focusing on crops like barley, sorghum, chickpeas, and mungbeans. The facility features diverse soil types, including rich black alluvial clay and arable soils, supporting a range of research activities. Notable infrastructure includes a biotechnology laboratory, controlled environment plant growth rooms, glasshouses, and cold storage rooms. The Hermitage also hosts the annual Schools Plant Science Competition, engaging students in agricultural science.
