Greenmount Homestead, located five kilometers west of Walkerston, is a cherished historic site in Mackay. Established in 1915 by Albert Cook, the homestead showcases a Queenslander-style residence, staff quarters, garage, and blacksmith’s workshop, collectively housing over 20,000 artifacts. The meticulously maintained gardens feature a formal front garden, fernery, and arbour, reflecting the Cook family's heritage. Visitors can explore the homestead on guided tours available Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and the last Sunday of each month, with tours commencing at 9:30 am, 10:30 am, and 11:30 am. Admission fees are $7 for adults, $5 for concession card holders, and $3 for children aged 5-18; children under 5 enter free. The homestead also offers group tours by prior arrangement and provides opportunities for volunteering, allowing individuals to engage with history and assist in preserving the site.
