Vulkathunha-Gammon Ranges National Park, established in 1970, is located approximately 625 kilometers north of Adelaide in South Australia's Flinders Ranges. This park is rich in cultural significance, forming part of the traditional country of the Adnyamathanha people. Visitors can explore its rugged terrain through various hiking trails and 4WD tracks, leading deep into the heart of the landscape. The park is home to many rare and endangered plants and animals. A notable feature is Lake Frome, an ephemeral salt lake that stretches 100 kilometers long and 40 kilometers wide, playing an important role in the lives of the Adnyamathanha people. The 'Plains Block' leading out to the edge of Lake Frome remains a traditional hunting ground. Hiking trails include the Italowie Gorge Hike, which takes you past Mount McKinlay Spring, and the Weetootla Gorge Hike, which meanders through the stunning Weetootla Gorge. Several tracks are accessible by car; most tracks are accessible by 2WD, although the Wortupa Loop Track and the track to Lake Frome require 4WDs.
