Frenchman Peak

Frenchman Peak, located within Cape Le Grand National Park, offers a challenging 3 km return hike to its summit, rewarding adventurers with panoramic views of the park, the southern coastline, and the islands in the Recherche Archipelago. The trail features gravel paths, wooden boardwalks, and exposed granite surfaces, with a steep ascent that includes rock hopping and scrambling. A notable cave near the summit, thought to have formed by wave action and underwater currents approximately 40 million years ago, provides shelter and unique geological interest. The Aboriginal name for the peak is Mandooboornup, reflecting its cultural significance. Hikers are advised to avoid the trail in wet or windy conditions due to slippery rocks and to wear appropriate footwear.
