Built in 1838 by former convict Britton Jones, Franklin House is a Georgian-style residence that became one of Tasmania's leading private schools in 1842. The house features an Ionic portico and interiors furnished to reflect 19th-century life. The National Trust in Tasmania was founded in 1960 to preserve and furnish this house, then known as The Hollies. Visitors can explore the gardens, relax under a 180-year-old oak tree, and enjoy light meals and refreshments in the tearooms. The house is open Monday to Friday from 10 am to 4 pm, and Saturday and Sunday from 12 pm to 4 pm. Entry fees are adults $15, concession $12, children aged 7-16 years $5, and family $35. National Trust members and children 6 years and under enter free.
