Located approximately 20 kilometers east of Bendigo, Fosterville Gold Mine is Victoria's largest gold producer. Operated by Agnico Eagle Mines Limited, this high-grade, low-cost underground mine has been in operation since 2005. In 2024, it produced 225,203 ounces of gold at a cost of $653 per ounce. The mine employs over 600 people and has a projected mine life until 2033. In May 2025, the Victorian Planning Minister approved the mine's expansion plans, which are expected to support 1,000 jobs and inject $1.3 billion into the local economy over the next decade.
