Ewens Ponds Conservation Park, located near Eight Mile Creek, South Australia, features three interconnected freshwater ponds renowned for their exceptional clarity and unique karst topography. Each pond, approximately 9 meters deep, is linked by shallow channels, creating an underwater landscape teeming with aquatic life. The park is home to species such as the endangered Ewens Pygmy Perch and the Glenelg Spiny Crayfish. Visitors can enjoy snorkeling and diving in the remarkably clear waters, with visibility often exceeding 80 meters. Due to the cool water temperatures, a full-length wetsuit is recommended. Please note that all plants and animals within the ponds are protected and must not be disturbed. Access to the ponds is via a dirt road signposted from Mount Gambier and Port MacDonnell. Facilities include a car park, pontoons with step ladders, toilets, and an information board. The park is open daily, but snorkeling and diving activities are closed annually from 1 September to 30 November. Before visiting, it's advisable to check for any current closures or alerts.
